Repatriation / Cyprus

Repatriation
from Cyprus

Medical repatriation from Cyprus, professionally guided within Europe and beyond, with ambulance transport, medical escort and full coordination of the process.

How we organise medical repatriation from Cyprus

We support patients and families throughout the entire medical repatriation process from Cyprus, including medical coordination, ambulance transport and international transfers.

The capital of Cyprus is Nicosia. Medical flights generally use Larnaca International Airport (LCA) and Paphos International Airport (PFO), depending on the exact location and destination.

How a patient can travel safely from Cyprus abroad

When a patient needs to travel from Cyprus abroad for further treatment, recovery, family support or a return to their place of residence, medically appropriate transport organisation is essential.

Not every patient can simply travel by private transport or on a regular scheduled flight. Sometimes professional medical support is needed, sometimes transport lying down by ambulance, and in urgent or complex situations an air ambulance may be appropriate.

For medical repatriation from Cyprus to destinations within Europe and beyond, Bryan Morgan Care supports patients and families with one dedicated point of contact, from the initial contact through to arrival at the destination.

In which situations is repatriation from Cyprus necessary?

If a patient in Cyprus cannot travel independently or safely, medical transport is needed — for a planned transfer, a return to their country of residence or an urgent medical transfer.

Limited mobility, a recent hospital admission, the need for oxygen, pain when sitting, the need for supervision or further treatment abroad are common situations. For each case, we assess which form of transport is medically responsible, feasible and safe.

Transport options from Cyprus

🚑

Ambulance transport

National and international ambulance transport from Cyprus with medical support, also for longer distances and bed-to-bed transport.

✈️

Accompanied scheduled flight

For stable patients who can travel seated, we provide medical support on a regular scheduled flight.

🛏️

Stretcher flight

Can a patient not sit up but travel stably lying down? A stretcher position on a scheduled flight can then provide the solution.

🛩️

Air Ambulance

For urgent or complex medical situations, we provide a specialised air ambulance.

🏥

Bed-to-bed service

Departure address or hospital in Cyprus, transport, medical handover and arrival: we arrange the entire journey.

📄

Full coordination

Doctors, hospitals, family, insurers and assistance partners: we fully coordinate all communication.

From initial contact to arrival: we arrange everything

A medical transfer abroad involves more than just transport: medical stability, documents, handover, timing, destination and any approval from an airline all play a role.

We can advise on the appropriate form of transport, contact doctors and hospitals, prepare the medical handover, support fit-to-fly documentation, arrange ambulance transport in Cyprus and, if necessary, also coordinate transport after arrival abroad.

This keeps everything clear for the family, without them having to liaise with different parties themselves.

Some situations from our cases in Cyprus

Below are anonymised situations from our practice, with examples from Cyprus and the wider region. They show how different cases can be: palliative journeys, ICU transport, medical escort, stretcher solutions and complex ambulance planning.

Case 1

Older patient with a fractured hip after a fall in Cyprus

An older patient fractured a hip after a fall during a stay in Cyprus. As sitting for a prolonged period was not possible, a stretcher position on a scheduled flight was chosen, with ambulance transport to and from the airport.

Case 2

Medical support after thrombosis during a stay in Cyprus

After thrombosis was diagnosed during a stay in Cyprus, caution was required with every form of transport. A nurse accompanied the patient on a scheduled flight, with an adapted sitting position and monitoring during the journey.

Case 3

Dying patient from Paris to Copenhagen

An older patient with advanced cancer, a ruptured tumour and a risk of bleeding had to be transported from Paris to Copenhagen. Flying was not medically advisable. The journey was planned by road with medical support, comfort care, risk assessment and clear arrangements for the handover on arrival.

Case 4

MICU transport after a road accident in Croatia

After a serious road accident along the Croatian coast, a younger patient required intensive monitoring throughout the entire journey home. Transport was carried out as MICU transport, with continuous monitoring of heart rhythm, oxygen saturation and blood pressure, and close coordination between the local hospital and the receiving team.

No insurance? We can still help

Even if there is no travel insurance or insurer involved, you can contact Bryan Morgan Care directly.

We also provide advice, an assessment of the medical situation and, if desired, a no-obligation quotation without insurance. If an assistance partner is involved, we also support that communication.

Departure and care handover for Cyprus

The case is given a separate local transfer profile. For Cyprus, a plan is drawn up within Cyprus that fits the type of country and the current care needs.

The building, department, floor, lift and suitable ambulance entrance are confirmed in advance.

For a flight, airline acceptance and mobility assistance are arranged separately from the medical escort.

The final kilometres are planned as part of the care, not as a separate taxi journey.

The most readily available option is not automatically the safest overall route.

Any barrier, slope, narrow lift or long walking route is reported in advance. Large luggage is transported separately when it obstructs access to the patient or equipment.

For a long journey, care intervals, crew changes and reserve supplies are included. The receiving party receives the medical summary, medication times and updated arrival time.

Final check before departure from Cyprus

It is explicitly recorded who bears medical responsibility during each handover.

When language presents a barrier, the key points of the handover are summarised clearly without omitting the source documents.
