Distances in Germany determine the repatriation route
Germany extends from the Belgian border to the Baltic Sea and the Alps. A road ambulance may be assessed differently from Aachen, Cologne or Düsseldorf than from Hamburg, Berlin or Munich. The postcode, hospital entrance and Belgian destination are therefore essential.
Western Germany
North Rhine-Westphalia is relatively close, but urban traffic and hospital campuses require a margin. A direct ambulance may avoid airport transfers when the patient’s condition and required level of care allow this.
North and east
Hamburg and Berlin involve longer routes, more crew planning and possibly a comparison with air transport. Waiting, boarding and the onward transfer in Belgium also count, in addition to the cabin phase.
Southern Germany and Alpine routes
Munich, Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria can be affected by winter weather, tunnels and traffic corridors. Oxygen, medication and staff reserves are not calculated solely on the basis of ideal driving time.
Handover in Germany
Request the Arztbrief, medication list, mobility details and relevant images. In an acute emergency, call 112; repatriation only begins after local stabilisation and a separate transport assessment.
