Repatriation / Hungary

Repatriation
from Hungary

From Hungary we organise medical repatriation from A to Z: ambulance transport, medical escort and full coordination within Europe and internationally.

How we organise medical repatriation from Hungary

We guide patients and families from Hungary through the entire repatriation process: including medical coordination, ambulance transport and international transfers.

The capital of Hungary is Budapest. Medical flights generally use Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD), depending on the exact location and destination.

How a patient can travel safely from Hungary abroad

Further treatment, recovery, family support or returning to their place of residence: when a patient needs to travel abroad from Hungary for one of these reasons, medically appropriate transport arrangements are essential.

Private transport or a regular scheduled flight is not suitable for every patient. Depending on the situation, professional medical assistance may be required, sometimes transport lying down by ambulance, and in urgent or complex cases an air ambulance.

We support patients and families with medical repatriation from Hungary to destinations within and outside Europe, with one point of contact throughout the entire journey, from the initial contact to arrival.

♡

When is medical transport from Hungary required?

A planned transfer, a return to the country of residence or an urgent medical transfer: whenever a patient in Hungary cannot travel independently or safely, medical transport may be required.

Limited mobility, a recent hospital admission, the need for oxygen, pain when sitting, the need for supervision or further treatment abroad are common factors. For each case, we assess which form of transport is medically responsible, feasible and safe.

These forms of transport are available from Hungary

🚑

Ambulance transport

National and international ambulance transport from Hungary with medical assistance, including longer distances and bed-to-bed transport.

✈️

Escorted scheduled flight

If the patient is stable enough to travel seated, we provide medical assistance on a regular scheduled flight.

🛏️

Stretcher flight

Can a patient not sit but travel lying down while stable? A stretcher position on a scheduled flight can then provide the solution.

🛩️

Air ambulance

Rapid medical repatriation via a specialised medical flight in urgent or complex medical situations.

🏥

Bed-to-bed service

From the departure address or hospital in Hungary, through transport and medical handover, to arrival at the destination: we arrange the entire journey.

📄

Full coordination

We support contact with doctors, hospitals, family members, insurers and assistance partners.

We take care of the entire journey

Medical transport abroad requires more than just transport. Medical stability, documents, handover, timing, destination and any required approval from airlines must all be taken into account.

We assist with choosing the form of transport, contacting doctors and hospitals, preparing the medical handover, fit-to-fly documents, ambulance transport in Hungary and, where necessary, onward transport after arrival.

This means that the family does not have to contact different parties themselves and the entire case remains clearly organised.

Some situations from our cases in Hungary

The situations below, anonymised and partly originating in Hungary, show how diverse medical repatriation can be: from palliative journeys to ICU transport, medical escorts and complex ambulance planning.

Case 1

Ambulance transport after a fall during a city trip in Hungary

During a short stay in Hungary, a patient fell and was suspected of having a fracture. As sitting for a long time was painful, ambulance transport with medical assistance to an airport was chosen, followed by onward transport home.

Case 2

Medical assistance after thrombosis during a stay in Hungary

After thrombosis was diagnosed during a stay in Hungary, caution was required with every form of transport. A nurse escort on a scheduled flight was chosen, with an adjusted sitting position and monitoring during the journey.

Case 3

Palliative journey with oxygen to Portugal

A patient with advanced illness had to be taken to a hospital in Portugal to spend the final phase there. Due to the need for oxygen and limited reserves, this was an extremely vulnerable journey. The journey was carried out by road with oxygen provision, monitoring, medical assistance and continuous assessment en route.

Case 4

MICU transport after a road accident in Croatia

After a serious road accident along the Croatian coast, a young patient required intensive monitoring throughout the entire journey home. The transport was carried out as MICU transport, with continuous monitoring of heart rhythm, oxygen saturation and blood pressure, and close coordination between the local hospital and the receiving team.
