Repatriation / the Netherlands

Repatriation
from the Netherlands

Medical repatriation from the Netherlands, professionally guided within Europe and beyond, with ambulance transport, medical escort and full coordination of the process.

Medical repatriation from the Netherlands: our approach

We support patients and families throughout the entire medical repatriation process from the Netherlands, including medical coordination, ambulance transport and international transfers.

The capital of the Netherlands is Amsterdam. For medical flights, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) and Eindhoven Airport (EIN) are generally used, depending on the exact location and destination.

Safe medical transport from the Netherlands abroad

Further treatment, recovery, family support or returning to the place of residence: when a patient needs to travel abroad from the Netherlands for one of these reasons, medically appropriate transport arrangements are essential.

Private transport or a regular commercial flight is not suitable for every patient. Depending on the situation, professional medical supervision may be required, sometimes transport lying down by ambulance, and in urgent or complex cases an air ambulance.

For medical repatriation from the Netherlands to destinations within Europe and beyond, Bryan Morgan Care supports patients and families with one dedicated point of contact, from the initial contact through to arrival at the destination.

When should medical repatriation from the Netherlands be arranged?

If a patient in the Netherlands cannot travel independently or safely, medical transport is required — whether for a planned transfer, a return to their country of residence or an urgent medical transfer.

Limited mobility, a recent hospital admission, a need for oxygen, pain when sitting, the need for supervision or further treatment abroad are common situations. For each case, we assess which form of transport is medically responsible, feasible and safe.

We arrange the journey from A to Z

Medical travel abroad involves more than transport alone. Medical stability, documents, handover, timing, destination and any required approval from airlines must all be taken into account.

We support you in choosing the form of transport, contacting doctors and hospitals, preparing the medical handover, arranging fit-to-fly documents, ambulance transport in the Netherlands and, where necessary, onward transport after arrival.

This means the family does not have to contact several parties themselves and the entire case remains clear and organised.

Some situations from our cases in the Netherlands

The situations below, anonymised and partly originating in the Netherlands, show how varied medical repatriation can be: from palliative journeys to ICU transport, medical escorts and complex ambulance planning.

Case 1

Medical supervision for pneumonia in the Netherlands

A patient with severe pneumonia during a stay in the Netherlands required continuous oxygen administration and monitoring. After medical stabilisation, a commercial flight with nursing supervision was arranged, including an oxygen supply on board.

Case 2

Stretcher transport after a diving accident in the Netherlands

After a diving accident along the coast of the Netherlands, the patient could not sit upright for extended periods. A stretcher position on a commercial flight was arranged, with prior medical approval from the airline and subsequent ambulance transport.

Case 3

Medical escort after a heart attack in the Netherlands

After suffering a heart attack during a stay in the Netherlands, the patient, following stabilisation and fit-to-fly approval, was accompanied by a nurse on a regular commercial flight home, with continuous monitoring during the flight.

Case 4

Medical transport after an allergic reaction in the Netherlands

After a severe allergic reaction during a stay in the Netherlands, close medical follow-up was required during the return journey. The patient was accompanied by a nurse on a commercial flight, with the necessary medication and monitoring on board.

Departure and care handover for the Netherlands

The initial ambulance phase is recorded separately for this destination. For the Netherlands, a plan is made within the Netherlands that fits the type of country and the current care requirements.

The building, department, floor, lift and suitable ambulance entrance are confirmed in advance.

Delays caused by traffic or weather must not exhaust the available medication, oxygen or battery.

The final kilometres are planned as part of the care, not as a separate taxi journey.

If the patient’s condition deteriorates, local reassessment takes priority over the planned departure.

Any barrier, slope, narrow lift or long walking route is reported in advance. If the patient’s condition deteriorates, local reassessment takes priority over the planned departure.

For a flight, airline acceptance and mobility assistance are arranged separately from the medical escort. On the Belgian side, home care, rehabilitation or an accepted hospital bed is ready.
