Case 1
Medical escort for pneumonia in Spain
Professionally guided medical repatriation from Castile-La Mancha — ambulance transport, stretcher flights, air ambulance and full bed-to-bed coordination to Belgium, the Netherlands and international destinations.
An acute or serious medical situation in Castilla-La Mancha immediately raises practical questions: can the patient travel, which form of transport is safe, and who will arrange it? Bryan Morgan Care takes over this coordination, with options ranging from ambulance transport and medical escort on a scheduled flight to stretcher transport or a dedicated air ambulance, always focused on a safe bed-to-bed transfer.
Every medical repatriation is assessed individually, not according to a fixed protocol. Mobility, pain, oxygen requirements, a recent procedure, infection risk, the fit-to-fly assessment, the distance to an airport and reception on arrival together determine what is safe and feasible.
When a medical situation arises in Castilla-La Mancha, we assess the options together with the treating doctors: continue treatment locally, transfer the patient to another centre elsewhere in Spain, or arrange their return to Belgium or the Netherlands.
Castilla-La Mancha is a landlocked, predominantly agricultural region with wide plains and a low population density, known for the stories of Don Quixote. Because of its proximity to Madrid, much medical traffic passes through the capital, although distances within the region itself remain considerable.
For medical repatriation from Castilla-La Mancha, we plan the entire route step by step: place of residence or hospital, local ambulance phase, ferry or airport selection, medical documents, form of transport and reception on arrival.
The medical condition determines the choice: ambulance transport, medical escort on a scheduled flight, a stretcher flight or an air ambulance.
Repatriation is about a safe, medically responsible return home, to a hospital or to a rehabilitation centre. Comfort, mobility, pain, oxygen requirements, medical handover and practical feasibility are at least as important as the distance itself.
The A-4 connects Madrid with Córdoba through the eastern part of the region, while the A-3 runs via Albacete to Valencia across straight but long routes through sparsely populated areas. Not every situation requires a flight. Ambulance transport is a safe option for transfers within Spain, journeys to an airport, transfers between hospitals, and sometimes even for a return to Belgium or the Netherlands when the distance remains medically justifiable.
We tailor the escort to the medical condition: nursing, paramedic or specialist support. Stretcher transport, oxygen administration, monitoring and handover to the receiving healthcare facility can form part of the journey if necessary.
The region has no major airport of its own; Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD), approximately a one- to one-and-a-half-hour drive away, is in practice the regular international airport for medical flights.
For a departure from Castilla-La Mancha, Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD), Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN) or Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport (AGP) may be considered, depending on availability and the route. Availability, medical clearance, flight duration, connections and the destination also determine which airport is most suitable. Where necessary, we arrange assistance, medical documents, escorts and connecting ambulance transport.
For critical, unstable or time-sensitive situations, a dedicated air ambulance may be the only safe option — for example, for ICU patients, patients requiring ventilation, severe trauma, neurological problems, complex infections, or when a scheduled flight is medically too risky.
Every part of an air ambulance journey — team, equipment, route, timing, ambulances at departure and arrival, and handover at the receiving hospital — is coordinated according to the medical urgency.
Can a patient not sit for a prolonged period, but is an air ambulance jet not necessary? A stretcher on a commercial flight may then be a suitable intermediate solution. The patient travels lying down, under escort, with prior medical approval from the airline.
This requires more preparation than an ordinary flight: medical forms, airline approval, planning of the lying-down section, escort team, ambulance transport to the airport and reception at the destination.
After a procedure in Castilla-La Mancha: are you already fit to travel?
After surgery, flying or travelling for a long time is not automatically safe. Risks such as pain, thrombosis, oxygen requirements, wound care, infection, immobility and complications must be taken into account.

Our approach: not a lead-generation site, but an operational team
Bryan Morgan Care does not operate like an anonymous lead-generation site, but as an operational medical transport organisation with experience in international repatriation, ambulance transport, medical escorts, stretcher journeys and complex patient transfers.
An example journey from Castilla-La Mancha
A patient is admitted to a hospital in or near Castilla-La Mancha. We request medical information, assess the condition, consult with doctors and develop one or more options. The objective always remains the same: a safe bed-to-bed transfer.
If the patient is stable, we generally choose a scheduled flight with medical escort; for limited mobility, a stretcher flight or ambulance transport; and in cases of severity or instability, sometimes an air ambulance.
